Dry January

To Drink or not drink… alcohol that is.

Whether you are choosing to abstain this month for health reasons, a personal challenge or because you have one hell of a hangover from New Year’s Eve, it makes sense.

But have you asked yourself why you drink or don’t drink. I drink alcohol at break time. No not the middle of the day, well I do that too, but then again, I work at a cidery.  But I’m talking about the end of the workday where I take a minute to wind down and share details of my day with my spouse.  I have a drink when I’m at dinner with friends or celebrating a birthday or holiday with family. I’m not drinking because of those events but rather because of the people I’m with and the memories we are building and sharing. It’s the warm embrace of ones who care. The laughter of stories that are old or jokes that are new. The ones who will listen to your stories no matter how repetitive or monotonously long they become.

This month I’ll continue to do the same. Maybe with a hard cider we make or maybe with a hot soft cider (we also make), although this time of year I’m a fan of hot tea.  It doesn’t matter the drink.  It does matter the people and the journey we share. It’ll be over before we know it, so I’m going to take this opportunity to fill my life with More.

More Time with Friends, with Family, with Laughter, with Sun and Walks and yes probably with a Drink (alcoholic or not, it doesn’t matter because that’s not the question).
